2 cups all-purpose flour
4 tsp. baking powder
2 tsp. sugar
1/2 tsp. cream of tartar
1/2 tsp. salt
1/2 cup shortening
2/3 cup milk
Preheat oven to 450 degrees F.
Stir together the flour, baking powder, sugar, cream of tartar, and salt. Cut in shortening with pastry cutter or 2 forks until mixture resembles coarse crumbs. Make a well ( indent ) in the center; add milk all at once. Stir just until dough clings together. Turn dough onto a lightly floured surface and knead gently for 10-12 strokes. Roll or pat to 1/2-inch thickness. Cut with a round biscuit cutter or open end of a drinking glass. Transfer to an ungreased baking sheet. Bake at 450 degrees for 10-12 minutes, or until golden brown. Serve warm with butter and honey!
