this recipe comes from the Hillbilly Housewife website, and was passed along to me by my friend, Faye; it is an easy and cheap way to make "Frosties" in your blender without ice cream
1 1/2 to 2 cups ice water
1 1/2 cups nonfat dry milk powder
2/3 cup sugar
1/4 cup unsweetened cocoa
1 tsp. vanilla
1 to 1 1/2 trays of ice cubes
2 Tbls. vegetable oil plus a 5-second squirt of nonstick spray, for emulsification purposes ( don't skip this part or your shake won't be thick)
Place all ingredients into your blender. Use less water for thicker shakes, but it might be hard on your blender motor! The blender should be 3/4 full. Place the lid on and process for a full 2 minutes. Pour into glasses and serve.
Makes 4 12-oz. servings.
Variations: Add 1 Tbls. instant coffee for a mocha shake
Add 1 very ripe banana for a chocolate-banana shake
Add a big spoonful of peanut butter for a choc-peanut butter shake
For Vanilla shakes, omit the cocoa powder, reduce sugar to 1/2 cup and add 1 Tbl. vanilla extract.
